Old San Juan Street Art

Hi, I’m Roumena.

Things I’m passionate about: travel, meeting new people, and learning new things. I believe that life is incredibly short, and this world has so much to offer.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that people attract the life they want. I’ve always been a proponent of this, but I was mostly talk and no walk. It’s time to walk.

The purpose of this blog is to document the takeaways and learnings from the decisions I have made and will make  as I start on the path to discovering my true self.

I am also going to be documenting the ups and downs of my decision to buy a one way ticket to Spain.

Read about that decision in the blog post that documents the journey of finally growing the you-know-what to actually go for it!

My background

I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. My parents left to London when I was 1 1/2 years old. Then, my sister and I stayed with our grandparents until my parents could find a way to get us to London (at the time, people weren’t allowed to travel with their children out of the country – think, Communism.) After my sister left when I was two, and finally, I made it to London when I was four. We had our ways.

A few years later, my mom heard an ad on the radio about something called the Greencard lottery. She decided, what the hell, I’ll throw our names in. Six months later, she received a package in the mail announcing “You’ve won the greencard lottery!” She almost threw it away, thinking it was junk. As it turns out, we won Greencards and were moving to America!

We packed up our lives into two suitcases and landed in Twin Falls, Idaho. Starting completely from scratch, we were lucky enough to have friends in the area who were willing to help us out for a few months while we landed on our feet.

I grew up splitting my time between Idaho and Europe, traveling back to Bulgaria over the summers to see my grandparents. The exposure to international travel at a young age sparked a fiery passion for travel that has never subsided. I’m always trying to explore, learn, and grow.

Now, I’m excited to make my move over to Europe and continue my travels. It’s not going to be all sunshine and rainbows. I hope you’ll follow my journey!
